We Commemorate Barış Manço with Respect, Love and Longing on the 17th Anniversary of His Death

It has been 17 years since Barış Manço, one of the legendary names of Turkish music, passed away due to a heart attack on February 1, 1999. The unforgettable artist was commemorated by his wife, children and loved ones on the anniversary of his death. The commemoration ceremony started with the departure of the Barış Manço ferry from Beşiktaş Pier. At the ceremony, Doğukan Manço performed the artist's unforgettable works. 

The Barış Manço ferry first stopped at Kabataş Pier and then at Kanlıca Pier. Those who attended the ceremony got on the buses prepared for them in Kanlıca, went to the cemetery and prayed for the artist.

Barış Manço was born in Istanbul on January 2, 1943. His interest in music started at Galatasaray High School. He completed his higher education at the Royal Academy of Belgium. He is a singer, composer, songwriter and also a TV program producer.

He is one of the founders of the Anatolian rock genre in Turkey. Nearly 200 of his compositions have earned him many awards. He sang some of these songs in various languages. He was awarded the title of state artist in 1991.
